On May 5, MoveUkraine Director Antonina Berezovenko took part in the roundtable discussion “Immigration for Recovery: How Ukraine Can Address Labor Shortages While Preserving Security,” held at Ukrinform.
The event was part of a series of public discussions dedicated to the preparation of Ukraine’s State Migration Policy Strategy through 2035 and brought together representatives of government institutions, researchers, labor market experts, businesses, and civil society organizations.
During the discussion, participants focused on managed immigration, the integration of foreign workers, labor market development, and the needs of local communities for specialists in various sectors. Special attention was given to security issues, transparent employment procedures, and effective integration into communities.
MoveUkraine Director Antonina Berezovenko emphasized the importance of a local approach to integration:
“For the integration of foreign workers to be successful, it is essential to clearly understand the actual needs at the level of specific regions and communities. When recruitment is based on real demand, immigrants stop being perceived as a challenge and become a resource for community development.”
For MoveUkraine, participation in such discussions is an important part of its work on community recovery, labor market development, and Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction. The organization implements projects in veteran rehabilitation, social housing development, and community support.
Work on the draft of Ukraine’s State Migration Policy Strategy through 2035 is currently ongoing. Representatives of government institutions, the expert community, businesses, and civil society organizations continue contributing to the discussion and development of the document.
This series of discussions demonstrates that the development of modern migration policy in Ukraine is taking place as an open process based on expert dialogue, analytical approaches, and cooperation between the state, businesses, and civil society.
